Amber Fort, Jaipur
Amer Fort or Amber Fort is one of the most popular tourist spots of Jaipur. It is basically a huge palace built from pale yellow and pink sandstone and white marble. It is divided into four main sections and each section has its own courtyard. You enter the Fort through the Sun Gate or Suraj Pol straight to the main courtyard or Jaleb Chowk.
There is a beautiful stairway leading up to the main palace here which will take you to the second courtyard and the Diwan-i-Aam or the Hall of Public Audience which has a double row of columns, each having an elephant on top.
The third courtyard leads to the Maharaja’s apartment which is decorated with beautiful frescoed arches. One must visit the Jai Mandir or Hall of Victory here which has a ceiling full of mirrors. The view from the Jai Mandir is fabulous and you can see the picturesque Maota Lake below. The fourth courtyard is in the centre of the women’s quarters.
There is also a small Siladevi Temple here which has a gorgeous silver door. There are also beautifully styled palatial rooms which have decor inlaid with semi precious stones. Another must visit chamber is the Sheesh Mahal or the mirror palace covered with thousands of tiny mirrors.
Amer Fort is one of the best tourist attractions of Jaipur and the sprawling palace has its own beauty and charm. It was built as far back as the 16th Century and is situated some 11 kms on the outskirts of Jaipur in the old town of Amer.
A lot of shooting also takes place here for movies and documentaries. It is not only a must visit tourist spot but also has historical significance. Every year a number of tourists throng the palace to seep in the history of this architectural beauty.
